with smashing contributions by electro lord legowelt from dirty brown the hague and bleep addict garçon taupe from the bourgeois slums of amsterdam, narrominded presents the fourth installment in its renowned split lp series. both sides of this split lp comprise a whole ep in length, and the contributions have in common that they are both deeply rooted in electro music.
on garçon taupes wittenburg ep, eighties infected drum computer beats and heavy bass lines pave the way for some rather cheerful and unpretentious melodies. the five tracks were mixed to tape at rude 66s triple six lounge studio, and reveal influences from electronic pioneers like yellow magic orchestra and mantronix, to todays acid freaks like luke vibert and like a tim. the end result is a catchy mixture of electro and acid.
legowelt explores the darker corners of electronic music in four tracks leaning on eerie vocals and grungy electro beats. his land rovers in astrophysics ep takes us to mysterious environments. we are spacing out on the force of the stars, the universe, etc, and dancing to hypnotic drums on a mystical trip to pago pago west samoa. legowelt not only knows how to to satisfy a dance floor, but is also capable of deeply appealing to the listeners imagination.

badmotorfinger got lost amid the blockbuster success of nevermind and ten (all were released around the same time). but the fact is that, though they re all great records, badmotorfinger is much less accessible by comparison. not that it isnt melodic, but it also sounds twisted and gnarled, full of dissonant riffing, impossible time signatures, howling textural solos, and weird, droning tonalities. its surprisingly cerebral and arty music for a band courting mainstream metal audiences, but it attacks with scientific precision. part of that is due to the presence of new bassist ben shepherd, who gives the band its thickest rhythmic foundation yet and, moreover, immediately shoulders the departed hiro yamamotos share of songwriting duties. but its apparent that the whole band has greatly expanded the scope of its ambitions. and badmotorfinger fulfills them, pulling all the different threads of the bands sound together into a mature, confident, well written record. this is heavy, challenging hard rock full of intellectual sensibility and complex band interplay.

hobo is a fellow canadian best known for his excellent work on m¦nus. rumor has it, he borrowed richies quad-macro template file to finish the final version of this remix... whatever he did, his second effort came up huge, this mix is excellent.

in the past few months sound of stereo has been all over the place. not only have they played every large festival and venue in belgium & holland, their tracks have also been picked up by big names such as bloody beetroots, steve aoki, mstrkrft, armand van helden, crookers, congorock, jokers of the scene and many, many more.

raidens label always comes with something different from the usual d&b formula rubbish. martsmans track is very impressive, with his refreshing future sound. on the other side its business as usual from raiden with help from khanage, its funky, and not as full on as normal, but again right at the cutting edge. martsman got into drum&bass around the end of the 90s. debuting on new york based offshore recordings in 2005, he released on smaller as well as established labels like alphacut records or counter intelligence in the following years. in 2008, tracks on warm communications and hospital records sub label med school attract the attention of a steadily growing audience also from outside the drum&bass scene.

mothership transmission 027 – maetrik the >space chronic< ep was the biggest selling record on mothership last year and for good reason. maetrik has an incredible knack for innovative and original sound design. he is also able to package these sounds inside great arrangements and very dj friendly beats. this is what really separates his records from the rest of the sound design experts. >show me< is the perfect example of maetriks amazing talents. after several minutes of a super funky techno groove (2 things that dont usually go together) we find ourselves at the drop. and this drop is one of the best we have ever heard. it sounds like an angry wasp is flying full speed through the inside of your brain. the riff will melt your mind. >simpleman< on the other side is a great example of maetriks versatility. you might be expecting a hardcore techno bit but instead we hear a very groovy, almost reserved jazz techno fusion joint, but still with the heavy beats to keep it real for the clubs.

peter kruder returns to the gigolo mega-church to present two new tracks from his recent arsenal of techno and house dance-floor bombs. needless to say 2009 has been a good year for gigolo and hell with the high times being shared by peter kruder. beginning back in march when we released peter kruders first 12 inch in 7 years as part of the cd eleven release. followed swiftly by the release of dj hells acclaimed >teufelswerk< album, recorded and produced largely in peter kruders vienna based studio. so as we approach the end of 2009 it gives us great pleasure to announce the latest ep >hard to find<.
on the a-side you find the title track, which takes in influences from detroit techno circa the age of ur to north african hooks. the filter sweep towards the end, which serves as the drop/break, is a master-class in restrained modulation that is bound to ignite any dance floor. on the b-side we find >25 west 38th st.< a slightly more reserved affair opening with the sound of the ocean air, then swiftly diving into a bass driven groove, which features lush strings and a piano-led top line creating a track that is as atmospheric as it is rhythmic. the ep itself takes influence from the b-side on two levels, the most immediate being the title of the track, which is the address of the old nu groove records offices. this is peter kruders homage to a time when dance music served as a momentary escape, an opportunity to make those around happy. it also brings peters relationship with gigolo records full circle, having begun in 2004 with his >nu groove< remix of hells >listen to the hiss<.
resident advisor recently alluded to the idea that peter kruders finest solo work is coming exclusively through gigolo records. it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility as this latest record goes a long way to proving. with such a statement in mind we invite you to listen to the latest release from peter kruder.

marcus mumford built mumford and sons after his long standing position as laura marlings drummer / harmoniser began to earn him praise from all who saw them play live together. his battered and raspy voice soars with emotion over massive swells of country tinged orchestral pop. lovelorn lyrics filled with hope, anger, fear and every passionate extreme in between mean mumford and sons are sure to achieve a massive amount of praise for their debut album sigh no more, which demonstrates the strength in both song and sound. togetherness is fundamental to mumford and sons. its there in the tightness of the arrangements, and the four part harmonies - its pretty unusual to hear pitch perfect harmonies that are also meaty, masculine and downright loud. and its in the simple fact that mumford and sons get such a kick out of playing together.

this new collaboration between two of cadenzas finest talents makes its official debut on mobilee with black shoes, a cut that pops, crackles, and snaps like youd never believe. dance floor ready yet unwilling to sacrifice an explicit focus on the details, black shoes pulsates with bass while suggesting a kind of lightness as whispered and fragmented voices hiss and murmur in the background. the melodics, which give off the feel of being in constant flux, provide a nice contrast to the intensely regularized bass drum while simultaneously meshing with the popping percussion that guide the track along its course. breakdowns filled with the sounds of static and 8-bit provide a nice experimental touch to this track that works equally well as a late-night romp as it does on the headphones. b-side speech also gives off a stuttered feel but is even more blippy and fragmented than its counterpart while migrating towards a more jacking vibe. brito and toro compliment this fractured sound with extensive use of vocal samples—both spoken and sung—that, while incomprehensible, lock in seamlessly with the overall feel of the track. melody here references both vintage sounds and traditional minimalism with the end result being a fusion of the two that is truly extraordinary.

>charger< is a massive track! the track seems to suck up air to created a vacuum and also sounds a bit as if there was a problem with the ignition of the charger! once it gets going it is indeed a heavy rocking track!>firebird< is a fat sounding house track, which can be plaid by house djs as well as techno djs using a cool walking bassline and a super tight slapping snare and cool house vocals on top of it! starting housy the track develops into a hi energy, appegiator driven track showing alex unders talent for moving genres skilfully from one end to the other! this is a great track!

more stuff from detroit finds it way to the world through amsterdams delsin records. so far they have released 2 ep on shakes frictional label. lately strand was very successful with their live performance at the demf 2001 together with anthony shake shakir. message 2 is filled with their soulful and funky techno. the tracks end up somewhere between shakes freestyle beats and cims soft electronic excursions. strings and gentle beats are all around, also going more uptempo and danceable. funky, deep soul techno tracks in good delsin tradition!

patterns has a string of releases lined up of pure quality funky techno and next in this line up is no other than josh love! josh has been doing great work lately solo and with his partner mat303 recently on labels like: kazoo, relatives, techhead & subcult to name just a few. he also has a release upcoming with great response on the patterns sublabel special series. now its time for a solo ep on patterns. the ep is in true patterns style. the a1 starts of with a synth driven funky techno track. the rest is funky techno like it should be. nice samplework, big beats filled with heavy percussion and basslines. all in all a great debut ep from this french producer.

born in the same year but on wildly different career trajectories, a chance meeting in ibiza last year between ben watt and hell sparked this unexpected release. with help on this release from previous buzzin fly don christian prommer, hell could turn in a deep house monster. >freak it< also features hot man-of-the-moment spencer parker on the remix. this is the latest single from ben watts respected imprint buzzin fly, an unexpected home for the german electroclash / techno don, hell. available on limited edition 12 inch featuring collectors’ artwork (500 copies).

john tejada was marooned in los angeles in the summer of 82. a strange place to grow up coming from vienna austria. even stranger considering the lack of techno there in the 90s. in a land of glowsticks and desert parties, tejada stuck to his love and development of his own unique electronic sound. fast forward to 2007 when detroit area native josh humphrey was also marooned in los angeles. it didnt take long for the two to meet and connect the cables on their modulars into a system twice as big. the result is marooned, palettes newest collaboration between john tejada and josh humphrey. the trio of songs reveal three sides to the duos work. the title track, marooned, joins humphreys modular synth work with tejadas beats and soothing pads, the result being a slice of beat-driven melodic techno created in a city where such sounds are rarely heard. melodiac continues from there with a lighter mood, with humphreys modular melodies and tejadas signature stabs and rhythms. rounding out the three is concrete safari, which largely focuses on humphreys modular fm synth work that slowly evolves into a cluster of tribal sounds, modular birds and grainy goodness. humphreys knowledge of synths and programming is quite extensive. he currently works with la based big city music, a dealer of modular and boutique synthesizers. it is also a place tejada frequents to test most of his gear

the title of max coopers stochastisch serie ep, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known traum releases in the past. the london based artist max cooper sees his new 12 inch as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as i and end of reason. it is no surprise that dischordance is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. the friction max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. his dance floor rockers stochastisch serie and mnemonic work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure stochastisch serie. the remix of uk producer leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger djs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong.

as the lead front room representative daniel steinberg has been one of the main flavours on the label, with this being his fourth release for front room recordings. daniels records frequently land in the crates of artists such as ricardo villalobos, luciano, claude vonstroke, richie hawtin and jesse rose to name a few. his previous releases on front room like cobra limbos, uptown and keep on movin still resonate around the dance floors of the world, proving time and time again that daniels sound continues to inspire djs and club goers alike.as well as having great success on front room recordings daniel also regularly airs his talents on labels such as style rockets, leftroom and grandpetrol. daniel can also be regularly found trotting the globe to showcase his skills at some of the finest clubs throughout the world. daniel steinberg is once again stepping up to the plate with two killer tracks showcasing his own unique take on house that will be sure to keep dance floors pulsing and hands in the air through summer, winter and beyond.

next 12 inch on the new sub-label by munich-based gomma records for their output of club-focused 12 inch maxis - telonius gets the remix-treatment by zombie nation and moulinex !!! with his project telonius, jonas imbery one of the 2 chiefs of gomma records is returning to his musical roots - early house music from the 80ies and 90ies. his inspired dj-sets convey a dense and rich musical texture, spanning from frankie knuckles warehouse inspired retro house and loft-style disco music to brand new club productions. never sounding stuck in the past, but with both feet firmly based in the current musical streams of electronic club sound, which also shows in the productions for telonius.

the phenomenal handclap band, are a many-membered ensemble which also features musicians from tv on the radio, jon spencer blues explosion and amy winehouses backing band the dap kings, all of whom contribute their individual talents to make for a very exciting whole. their sound is an anthemic, dancefloor-oriented blend of progressive rock, disco, electro, and 60s soul with sprinklings of hip hop-styled orchestral breakbeats and moody, synth-soaked & heavy hooks. using live instrumentation to evoke the intricate arrangements of norman whitfield, quincy jones and phil spector as well as the pared down beats of contemporaries like the neptunes and danger mouse.

>the cockpit< is my personal favourite song of the chelonis album and it has taken my sleepless night (and days) to watch out for the right remixers. now that all new versions are ready, i m more than happy because all three fellows have felt the real vibe of the original song. a spezial thanx to ekkohaus who delivered two different mixes and spent a lot of energy and passion into these productions. and also merci to steve rachmad and paul woolford, guys who stand rather for techno, however improved their soul into creating passionated tech house! chapeau! aux-rec is being launched by airdrop records as an offshoot label designed with a specific mission in mind: to look back and pay tribute. aux-rec surveys musical history looking for those inspiring pieces of music (famous or forgotten) that carry a very distinctive groove and identity, and that offer the potential to be revisited in an ingenious contemporary way. at airdrop, we love music of all ages and of many genres! we feel aux-rec is a way for our artists and for us to pay our due respects to the origins and the evolution of contemporary dance music.
the existing airdrop roster of artists will be invited to contribute to aux-rec, but different artists will also be uncovered specifically for this project. off to a fresh start, franco cinelli and club rayo (a duo composed by rafael sorol and pablo terreil) engrave their long-time friendship on this record. franco cinellis first productions were released on the duos imprint club rayo disquets at the beginning of the millenium. the club rayo collective has been extremely active in the local argentinean scene for more than twelve years now.
going back to one of music historys greatest classics, >fever<, franco cinelli and club rayo bring their own interpretations to a theme that has known as many versions than people taking a sing at it in the shower! using ella fitzgeralds and elvis presleys voices, club rayo create repsectively the fitzgerald mix - a rocking dancefloor jam looping ellas fantastic voice bringing it to a culmination - and the king dub - a 118 bpm groove punctuated by elvis low-pitched and resonant tone. cuerdas is a short guitar instrumantal rendition of the fever theme. on his remix, franco cinelli creates a 10 minutes drum symphony, especially designed for the post-climatic hours. both producers kept in mind ellas famous quote when undertaking this great enterprise: >i stole everything i ever heard, but mostly i stole from the horns.<
the following releases on aux-rec will also be in the form of bootlegs, edits, re-works or samples (you name it). they will bring back memories to your heads and mostly the groove to your feet. to be true to its mission of a vintage exploration, aux-rec will be releasing exclusively on vinyl, in the tradition of the essential music format of the 20th century. there will be no digital releases at aux-rec. in the pipeline are soul claps edit of laid backs >bakerman< as well as le loups version of sheila es >a love bizarre<, produced by prince.

donovan is a french parisian duo consisting of david saïd and nicolas nekmouche, formed in 2007. influenced by black music, french touch and techno as much as contemporary artists, donovan created an original sound, melodic and also very club, with tracks like >breakin, released on work it baby, a track featuring jessica rizzo released on gigolo records etc. so combining their respective influences, they obtain tracks full of energy and depth. the band hits the bulls eye and remixes requests start to pour in. among them two tracks of sebastien tellier for record makers, teenage bad girl, arnaud rebotini and several rock bands. dont pass on this one !

nosferatu delivers a slamming release on enzyme records. this record contains 3 solo tracks by nosferatu and a collaboration between nosferatu & mad dog (traxtorm records). lack of existence is a melodic track which has been played by all the top jocks the last months. a huge floor filler with a great melody. its great to hear the personal elements of both producers in this track. intimidation is an energetic track with cool vocals and a very effective riff. bloodlust is the second melodic track on this release. nosferatu asked nikkita to record some vocals for this track. the result is a massive mainstream hardcore track with an amazing melody! this track is also heavily supported by many djs. the last track on this release is the original wolves of creation. a very slow, bumpy track with funny vocals and an amazing drive!

for more than 15 years now, steve bug is known for influential track somewhere in between house, techno and minimalism. with his very good sense for the energy of self-limitation, bug has set standards when it comes to the funk of modern sound geometry, especially with his imprint poker flat recordings. milestones such as >loverboy<, >monsterbaze< or >wet n dry< are now essential elements of the history of electronic dance music. only a few weeks after the release of his fourth album collaboratory, bug even tops that one with this 12 inch on cocoon: while look whos stalking obviously refers to steves close relation to the raw energy of u.s. house in between chicago trax and detroit, using driving hand claps, percussions and nasty vocals, the flipside zero balance could pass as a vision of how far you can reduce techhouse to the essence of a bass line. also here, short vocal loops - besides the fast-moving elements - complete a sensibility that makes bugs tracks such high quality music for a very long time now.

due to the long awaited cd compilation release and suddenly its morning smallville comes up with a third 12inch issue. the labels darling sven tasnadi, also known from his releases on ornaments, poker flat, cargo, oh!yeah! and liebe*detail, lightens up the dancefloor with a bright sparkling groover- new villalobosish moves with a deep emotional fill on the a-side. on the flipside we welcome the highly talented newcomer christopher rau to the smallville label-roster. christopher is a friend who hangs out at smallville record store in hamburg a lot. with friends he runs the hamburg/ munich based label dérive and delighted us and everyone with his ne travaillez jamais track earlier this year. for his debut on smallville christopher creates a reduced seductive track, subtly growing to total sweetness on the floor. and suddenly its morning… a w&p by sven tasnadi b w&p by christopher rau

today, krikors musical style has become more hybrid than ever, a personal synthesis of his musical obsessions : the fat groove and old drum machines of chicago house, the abstract sounds of minimal techno, the urge and energy of rock(abilly), the harshness of industrial music, the dark romantism of folk anti-heroes from the 60s and the forward thinking of grm lab rats (pierre schaeffer, pierre henry..). the result of this synthesis is a first album >land of truth< at last, after 10 years of waiting. its an intimate and ambitious album, bitter and sweet. 11 cinematic songs featuring the voices of krikor himself and also nicolas ker (from poni hoax) on >god will break it all< and >dogs on trial<, chloe (the french dj) on >everything fades< and chloe (the english punkette of battant) on >the times<.

it was only a short time ago when these 2 young up and comers made their respective debuts on our label and in the few months between then and now, they have gone on to skyrocket up through the ranks, conquering dancefloors, charts and dj crates-while becoming household names synonymous with quality and consistency.
florian kruse and nils nürnberg need very little introduction these days but for those that have been asleep or living under a rock, a good start would be to check their recent output on fine labels such as nrk, om, moodmusic, dessous and our very own dieb, to name a very select few. their first combined effort on the label has resulted in the >suerte ep<, a tight collection of deep as hell, tech infused house numbers heavily characterized by their attention to groove and addictive, seductive chord progressions that have become a hallmark of their production prowess.
to add some spice to an already sterling and stylized package, we have enlisted our good friend (and also mood music alumnus) alexander maier, to remix the titular >suerte< where he adds his considerable musical vocabulary to the proceedings, peppering a very tasty arrangement with piano chord stabs and throbbing basslines resulting in a gorgeous, summery house re-interpretation that has to be heard to be believed!
as if this werent enough, fresh from an impressive debut on nils and florians save room records we have been lucky enough to secure a percussion led, funk infused remix of >achieving balance< from bright new boys on the block io who round things off nicely and add another dimension to the >suerte ep<.
